Got a bit of a thirst on following a dry spell whilst studying for Wine & Spirit Diploma final exams. No to worry though because I'v since stocked up at my local Majestic store by
Amongs the gems that I found was......Chalk Spring Vinyards - Limeston Coast - Shiraz - 2009
Not a usual purchase for me but I wasn't disopointed at all. A very typical ruby red sticky concoction seemed to cling and cry down the side of the glass. On entry for a good old sniff I was met by intense red berry fruits and already developed cedar wood, liquorice, sweet tobacco. A dead give away to barrel aging if there ever was one. So now I'm tinking to myself, will it live up to expectations on the palate? Oh yeh! Full bodied, ripe, soft tannins and moderate alcohol let you know you're in for a quaffer. More red berry fruits followed with trademark toasted oak nuances and spicy pepprey fruit. And just to live up to its namesake appelation a lingering hint of that calcerous mineral soil.
Over all a good, above average buy. Excelent example of Shiraz from this neck of the woods, it won't improve too much in bottle so get it down you sharpish!
